What we collect and why
When you enquire, create an account or place an order, we collect the information needed to respond, manage your account, supply products, arrange delivery, process payments, prevent fraud, handle returns and meet accounting or legal requirements.
This can include your name, business name, email address, phone number, billing and delivery addresses, order and payment-reference details, support messages and account information. If we approve business invoice terms, we also keep the approval, assigned terms and relevant order records. Wish lists store the products you choose to save.
The website and payment services may also process IP address, browser, device and session information for shopping functions, security and fraud prevention. Payment, supplier and courier confirmations may be added to your order records.
You can browse without registering and guest checkout is available. An account and a wish list are optional. We cannot complete an order without the contact, payment and delivery information needed to supply it.
Who receives information
Switched On IT uses your information to operate the shop and provide support. Access is for authorised people and service providers who need it for those purposes.
Stripe processes payments and fraud checks. Card details are entered into Stripe’s payment form; our shop receives payment results and references rather than storing your full card number or security code. Optional Stripe payment services have their own privacy terms. See Stripe’s Privacy Policy.
Dove receives the order and delivery information needed to supply and dispatch your goods directly to you. Couriers receive the contact and address details needed for delivery. SMTP2GO processes service emails, including recipient details and message content; see SMTP2GO’s Privacy Policy.
Shop records are held on systems managed by Switched On IT and by the service providers involved. Some provider processing and storage takes place overseas. Those services are subject to their own privacy policies and applicable privacy obligations. We may also disclose information when required or otherwise permitted by law.
Cookies and service messages
Cookies and similar browser storage support the cart, sign-in, shopping sessions and wish lists. Stripe may use cookies or similar technology for payment functions and fraud prevention. Blocking cookies can prevent some shop features from working.
Account and order emails are service messages. Creating an account does not sign you up to a marketing mailing list.
How long information is kept
Order and financial records must generally be kept for at least 7 tax years for tax and accounting requirements. Other information is retained for the lawful purposes for which it is needed, such as managing your account, support, warranty claims, security and disputes.
You can ask about closing your account or removing information. Closing an account does not immediately erase order records or backup copies. We will explain what can be removed and what we need to retain when responding to your request.
Access, correction and concerns
You can ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you. We may need to check your identity before releasing or changing information. Contact Stephen using the details above if you have a privacy concern. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
